Now that it’s been about 4 weeks since the arctic cold fronts in clearwater FL area. Redfish have finally started to feed. With extremelow water, the Reds have been tailing in potholes where the water is a few inches deeper. Live bait or soft plastic shrimp in dark colors have worked the best.
The Trout have finally been on the move. Most Trout are also working these same areas just deeper. The deeper flats have held bigger numbers of Trout, from 13 to 18 inch fish with a few big femalesinthe24in class. There is a lot more fish in the 3-5 foot depth on the drop offs on the flats.
Snook are tucked up in the canals around Indian Rocks Beach around the docks. Live jubo shrimp and yozurie crystal minor have produced fish from 28 to 35in fish.
Sheaphead have been on the bridge pilings. Best bait is mud crabs or mangrove crabs but shrimp are working well and easier to get. Having a floor scraper with a cut down handle to scrape the pilings will fire them up.
