With the recent cold fronts, the water has chilled to the perfect temperature for clearwater flats fishing. With the water in the low 60’s, the fishing has still been hit and miss. Redfish are in good number on the right flats from Clearwater to Tarpon Springs. Fish ranging from 25 to 35 inches.

When’s the best time to fish the flats?

The best time to fish the Clearwater area flats is in on the extreme low tides. The Reds will be tailing all over the right flats, which make for great sight fishing .

What bait / lure should I use for Clearwater flats fishing?

Top-water lures such as mirror lure she pup or Zara jr have been more productive than bait.

Can I catch trout on the flats in the late winter?

Yes! Right now, in early-mid February the trout have started to push into our area. These fish are from 2 to 5 Lbs. and can be found in most drop offs adjacent to spoil islands and the flats. Bigger Trout will be in shallower water from 1 to 2 feet laying in potholes.
